This past May 30th, nine-piece funk outfit, Turkuaz, came together for the day-long donation-based music festival Quarantine Comes Alive, while separately quarantined to deliver a mesmerizing, live concert-like 30-minute set. Today, the band releases the full-set on their YouTube page.

“We’re doing a quarantine set here, where everybody is in their own homes,” frontman Dave Brandwein shared during his “pre-show” interview before the set. “To play along with each other and to be able to listen to one another, reacting…that’s something we haven’t experienced for quite a long time now. We had some fun with it—did a few extra things here and there that you’ll see…It’s five songs, and these versions are just for Quarantine Comes Alive only.”

From New York to California, Connecticut to North Carolina, Turkuaz performed five live show mainstays, including, “Mister Man,” “The One and Lonely,” “Big Business,” “Digitonium,” and “Monkey Fingers” all from their own homes while quarantined remotely. The seamless editing allows the music to flow effortlessly between members while exuding the energy of a real, live show. Proceeds from the unique, virtual performance went to PLUS1 COVID-19 Relief Fund, which works directly with leading non-profit organizations like Sweet Relief, MusiCares, Center for Disaster Philanthropy, World Central Kitchen, Partners In Health, Trans Lifeline, and Backline to provide aid where it’s needed most.
