With unique interpretations and arrangements of tunes by the beloved improvisational rock band, Phish, Jazz is PHSH is hitting the road in April 2020. The band, led by brothers Adam and Matthew Chase, will bring their own flair to Phish’s catalog spanning through the Southeast and across the Midwest next month. Tickets are are available at: jazzisphish.com/tour-dates.

“Ultimately, it became my goal to create arrangements that would be fun for Phish fans to enjoy while presenting the music in a way that would attract the respect and participation of some of the best jazz musicians in the world,” says bandleader Adam Chase.

Jazz Is PHSH was born organically as a result of Adam Chase’s profound love of music and his pure, life-long admiration of Phish. In Fall 2015, along with a flock of musicians including Kofi Burbridge, Michael Ray, Chris Bullock, Scott Flynn, Josh Thomas, Anthony Wellington and his brother Matthew, Chase began creating new arrangements for intricate compositions. It is this transcription process that has become the heart of the band’s identity. “My brother and I would try to come up with a concept for each song and use that as a starting point”, describes Adam Chase, “We would often write original chord changes to support the existing melody or we would pull changes from jazz standards and add them to the form.”

Jazz is PHSH is set to kick off their April 2020 tour with a three-show Southeast run through Asheville, NC, Louisville, KY and Newport, KY. Directly following, the band heads to the Midwest on April 16th with two stops planned in Ohio—Cleveland and Columbus—followed by plays in Chicago, IL, Madison, WI and Grand Rapids, MI. Late April sees the band visit Milwaukee, WI and Ferndale, MI, before concluding in Indianapolis, IN at Hi-Fi on April 25th.

This run, dubbed The Phishermen, welcomes bassist Felix Pastorius (Hipster Assassins), trombonist Adam Dotson (Slavic Soul Party), and saxophonist Kevin Gatzke (Dynamo) alongside drummer Adam Chase and guitarist Matthew Chase.
