Earlier this week, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong shared news that a new studio album would be due out sometime in 2020. While fans speculate when exactly the fifth studio installment from the beloved Baltimore quartet will arrive, the second single, “Dawn A New Day,” is out now: bit.ly/DawnANewDay.
To coincide with the release of “Dawn A New Day,” Pigeons Playing Ping Pong debuted a psychedelia-inspired lyric video on Billboard and announced a partnership with Backline to help others struggling with mental health “dawn a new day.” Contributions to Backline’s “Dawn A New Day” fundraiser can be made via: bit.ly/PPPPBackline.
“Our new single ‘Dawn A New Day’ is all about looking on the sunny side of life,” Pigeons Playing Ping Pong singer and guitarist Greg Ormont shared in a statement. “We’ve been fortunate to be able to spread that message of positivity to The Flock for years now, and we’re always looking for even more ways to give back. While we always encourage people to ‘dawn a new day’ when they’re experiencing a difficult chapter in their lives, we also recognize that it’s easier said than done. It made perfect sense to partner with Backline around this single to help raise awareness about mental health and offer a direct line to mental health resources for those who need it. We’re honored to give back to the music community in this way and we’re determined to find even more ways to help people ‘dawn a new day’ moving forward.”
This partnership marks the first of many upcoming activism initiatives to come from Pigeons Playing Ping Pong.
Launched October 2019, Backline is the music industry’s mental health and wellness resource hub. Starting as a referral-based system, where professionals will assess visitors’ needs and lead them to appropriate resources, Backline’s ultimate goal is to provide a network of on-demand mental health services available at no (or low) cost for industry professionals, with a focus on addressing the unique challenges and stresses of this unique space. More information is available at Backline.care.
“Dawn A New Day” follows the official release of “King Kong,” the debut single and music video from the upcoming fifth studio record, featuring the Here Come The Mummies horns. The two bands share a bill on December 7th when Pigeons Playing Ping Pong make their debut at The Anthem in D.C.
After a successful Halloween run dubbed “Stop Making Cake,” Pigeons Playing Ping Pong forges ahead with their extensive fall tour throughout the Midwest, Rocky Mountains, South and East Coasts.
