Tomorrow Loudon Wainwright III releases ‘Years In The Making,’ a 42-song, 2-disc compendium of rare, offbeat and previously unreleased tracks. This treasure trove represents Loudon’s life story through song, via recordings made throughout an extraordinary 4-decade career. It’s being released on StorySound Records and comes with a 60-page hardbound book with artwork done by New Yorker cartoonist and GRAMMY-winner Ed Steed.

Today the LA Times premiered the video for “Hollywood Hopeful,” a song from ‘Years In The Making’ that Loudon wrote while staying at the Chateau Marmont and recorded in 1975. Watch the video here: https://lat.ms/2p4rwzv

“I am a full fledged, grown-up adult/I’m trying make a dent, trying to get a result,” Wainwright sings. “I’m holed up in a Hollywood hotel suite/Tequila to drink and avocado to eat.”

It has also been announced that on October 6, Loudon will sit down with Judd Apatow and Christopher Guest as part of the New Yorker Festival to talk about his ‘Surviving Twin’ special on Netflix, due out this fall. This filmed version of Loudon’s one-man show was directed by Guest, and produced by Guest and Apatow. More information here: https://festival.newyorker.com/event/surviving-twin/

Loudon will then perform the next night, Oct 7, at NYC’s City Winery, in addition to Sept-Dec tour dates across the U.S. Full itinerary is below.

‘Years In The Making’ is an “audio-biography” that boasts orphaned album cuts, live recordings, radio appearances, home demos, and more, that come together to offer a never-before-seen perspective on Loudon’s public and private selves. Notable figures from Loudon’s life pop up throughout as well: Kate McGarrigle, Suzzy Roche, Bill Frisell, Van Dyke Parks, Chaim Tannenbaum, David Mansfield, Steve Goodman, George Gerdes, and the Wainwright children Rufus, Martha, Lucy and Lexie.
