Katie Toupin (formerly of the band Houndmouth) is proud to announce her debut EP, Moroccan Ballroom, which will be self-released on March 2, 2018. To ring in the announcement, the EP’s first single “Danger” is now available on all DSPs. A high-quality video of the final recording take (from which the audio is taken) accompanies the audio release, and can be watched HERE. Katie has also announced performances in March in Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Brooklyn and Chicago — more information about these shows can be found below. After years on the road with Houndmouth and a brief hiatus while getting settled in Los Angeles, Katie returned to writing. The resultant material became Moroccan Ballroom, a totally authentic expression of Katie. The Moroccan Ballroom EP was recorded entirely live (with no overdubs or edits) in a single day at Village Studios — it was meant to be a simple shoot for some of her newly-written songs, but Katie was so enamored with the outcome that she wanted to give them a proper release.
Before Moroccan Ballroom, Katie toured for many years with Houndmouth, which she formed with friends at the age of 21. Houndmouth was signed by Rough Trade Records and earned international acclaim, and Katie found herself playing notable festivals such as Bonnaroo, Austin City Limits Festival, and Lollapalooza, as well as playing late night slots on David Letterman and Conan. Katie co-wrote the song “Sedona,” which reached number 1 on Billboard’s AAA chart. She released two records with Houndmouth and toured internationally until her departure from the band in March 2016. Now, with Moroccan Ballroom, Katie embarks on her next chapter with more soulfulness and freedom than ever before.
