JIM JAMES DELIVERS A HOPEFUL MESSAGE IN HERE IN SPIRIT” VIDEO

The official video for “Here In Spirit” – the first single from My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James’ acclaimed new solo album, Eternally Even (ATO/Capitol Records)premiered today on The Atlantic’s website. Directed by Andy Hines (The Head and The Heart), the clip can be seen HERE. The song entered the Top 20 of Spotify’s Viral 50 this past weekend.

“So much confusion in the world right now…so much pain and chaos,” says James. “In times like these it’s easy to get angry and direct our sadness into the empty space-time false reality vacuum of the internet. But we have to try and stay positive and continue to work and speak out for peace and love and equality-in the real world… right now. We need to reach out to those we disagree with and find common ground. We must fight the divide and conquer techniques that are working so well to hold us back from universal love. That is part of what inspired moments in this video – hopeful snapshots of what that world could look like if we chose love and understanding over fear and hatred. No one can afford to stay silent. We need every vote. We need every voice. All of us need to speak out now louder than ever before in an effort to bring about lasting peace and love. Much respect to all those working so hard for peace and love right now. The world so badly needs and is grateful for your work. Thanks for listening.”

James will perform tonight at The Fillmore in Philadelphia. His U.S. headline tour, which kicked off earlier this week with two nights in Boston, will include shows at Terminal 5 in New York City (November 20), the Palace Theater in Louisville, KY (November 25) and the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles (December 9). Twin Limb will open on all dates. Tickets are available HERE. See below for itinerary.

James performed “Here In Spirit” – hailed as “a rallying cry” by Consequence of Sound– on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.” View his performance HERE. NPR, which streamed Eternally Even in its entirety as part of its “First Listen” series, praised the album’s “arresting, soulful…transcendent tunes.” Pitchfork said, “the album’s impact is rooted in how collectively, humanity searches for hope in the future.” Stereogum praised its “raw, exquisitely textured glory” and American Songwriter described it as  “a spellbinding listen.” “James is at the top of his musical prowess and it is with this music that he makes his largest impact,” noted The Massachusetts Daily Collegian.

James recorded Eternally Even at his home in Louisville and during an extended stay in Los Angeles, co-producing the album with GRAMMY®-nominated producer Blake Mills (Alabama Shakes). It follows James’ 2013 debut solo album, Regions of Light and Sound of God, and My Morning Jacket’s The Waterfall (2015), which brought the band its third GRAMMY nomination for Best Alternative Music Album.  Eternally Even is the next step in a creative journey that has included seven acclaimed albums with My Morning Jacketand work with the all-star Monsters of Folk, the Woody Guthrie tribute album New Multitudes, and the recastings of newly-unearthed Bob Dylan lyrics on Lost on the River. Named by Rolling Stone as “one of rock’s most powerful singers and one of its most fearless architects,” James has recently produced albums by Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Basia Bulat and Ray La Montagne’s latest album, Ouroboros.
