Pittsboro, NC – The Shakori Hills Community Arts Center, home of the Shakori Hills GrassRoots Festival, is hosting their 7th Annual NC Stars in the Round show on August 27th.
The evening’s highlight will be a singer-songwriter circle featuring talent from all over the state. Each artist will share his or her unique musical talents one song at a time, then pass the mic to the next. The stars include: Nikki Talley and Aaron Burdett (both hailing from Western NC), Lizzy Ross (who calls Hillsborough home), Raleigh’s James Olin Oden, & Pittboro-based, Liz Moudy.
Opening the show will be Gasoline Stove, an acoustic four-piece born of the rustic charm of Pittsboro, NC that plays a raggedy authentic brand of countrified roots rock bursting with emotional energy. With dashes of upbeat folk music and smoldering traces of whiskey-soaked bluegrass, their dusty country barroom sound embodies a ferocious thump and twang. With gritty vocals and gorgeous four-part harmonies, their songs are literary bursts of confession and celebration.
Closing out the show will be longtime festival friends, Dr. Bacon. Dr. Bacon is a genre defying “Appalachian Funk-Rock” band from Asheville, NC playing an infectiously danceable blend of funk, soul, jazz, rock, blues, folk, hip-hop and more. The band features diverse instrumentation including: guitars, resonator, harmonica, bass, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, drums, trombone, and kazoo.
Event organizer, Sara Waters says, “North Carolina has such amazing talent! We’re so excited to bring some of it’s great songwriters and bands out to this special yearly event.”
American Meltdown and Heavenly Smoke food trucks will be on hand as well asMaple View Farm’s ice cream, Yee Haw Doughnuts, and drinks from Chatham County’s Carolina Brewery and Fair Game Beverage Company.
