Rachael Yamagata and John Medeski have released their rendition of legendary filmmaker Robert Altman‘s classic song, “Let’s Begin Again.” The track is featured in the new impressionistic documentary Altman, which celebrates the life and art of the genre-busting cinema maverick. Altman wrote “Let’s Begin Again” in the late 1940s for an intended backstage musical about Hollywood called Rumors are Flying. Later, he would use the song in many of his classic films.
John Medeski was asked to record “Let’s Begin Again” for inclusion in Altman by the documentary’s renowned directorRon Mann. Medeski enlisted the superbly talented vocalist, Rachael Yamagata, along with world class musicians Ben Perowsky (drums) and Jesse Murphy (bass), for his interpretation.
“It was an honor to be invited to record this classic song by Robert Altman for a documentary about his life. Rachael really blew my mind with her performance. She’s a natural jazz singer. I hope we get to do more of this in the future,” states Medeski.
Rachael Yamagata & John Medeski “Let’s Begin Again” is out now as a digital single via Medeski Martin & Wood’s artist run label, Indirecto Records. It’s available at all major digital retailers, including iTunes, Amazon and Spotify.
