Garden & Gun premiered Robert Earl Keen’s cover of Flatt & Scruggs’ “Hot Corn, Cold Corn,” the first preview from his new album, ‘Happy Prisoner,’ produced by Lloyd Maines and comprised of the bluegrass and acoustic music of Keen’s youth. The ‘Happy Prisoner’ highlight “Hot Corn, Cold Corn” showcases Keen’s longtime ace band backing him up on banjo, flatpicking guitar and upright bass. Keen will take his band on the road in 2015 for a tour supporting ‘Happy Prisoner.’ The tour kicks off with two performances in New York City – Bowery Ballroom (Feb. 9) and Music Hall of Williamsburg (Feb. 10) – and includes shows in Knoxville, TN and Hartford, CT. Dates below with additional dates to be announced in the coming weeks.
Keen explained to Garden & Gun why he was drawn to the track: “‘Hot Corn’ fits me. I’m known for fun shows and breaking down barriers. Getting down and dirty and having a big time with friends is life-affirming. The song was a blast to record, and a true creative collaboration with all involved. [Producer] Lloyd [Maines] was the ringmaster, but we all threw our best outlandish talents into that production.”
