Legendary guitarist, Johnny Marr (formerly of The Smiths) has announced a headlining fall tour in support of his upcoming new album, ‘Playland,’ due out October 7th on Warner Music Group. In an exclusive interview with Billboard, Marr revealed the nearly 30-date North American run that begins on November 9th in DC and ends with back-to-back shows in Los Angeles on December 19 & 20th. The trek also includes two shows in New York (one in Manhattan and one in Brooklyn). Tickets go on sale beginning Wednesday, September 10th and more info on where and how to buy can be found on Marr’s official website. Please see below for a complete list of announced tour dates.
Not relying on his iconic status as a former member of one of the UK’s most beloved and influential bands of all time, Marr tells Billboard, “We want to be known for being a great live band.” To read the entire announcement and interview on Billboard, which also touches on the new album, click HERE.
Marr’s lead single, “Easy Money” from ‘Playland’ has also already shot to #1 on the Alternative Specialty Radio chart and is the most added song on the BDS AAA Radio Chart. Johnny recently premiered the video for “Easy Money” on Pitchfork and Rolling Stone describes the track as having, “…throbbing bass, funky guitar and a catchy melody to mask lyrics about the downfalls of greed.”
‘Playland’ is Marr’s second solo effort and the follow up to last year’s critically acclaimed (included the honor of being named as NME’s Godlike Genius) Top 10 debut album ‘The Messenger.’ Work on the album commenced in London in spring 2014 as soon as the year of touring in support of ‘The Messenger’ came to a close. It finds Marr continuing the creative connection that was forged on ‘The Messenger’ with collaborator and co-producer Doviak, as well as the other musicians who performed on the album and accompanying tour.
Fender has also revealed details of Johnny’s new special edition signature green Jaguar guitar, which is on sale now. Further details, as well as a link to purchase the guitar, can be found HERE.
