Soft-spoken by nature, south Florida-bred Roosevelt Collier does his hollering on the steel guitar. Brought up in the “sacred steel” tradition of the House of God Church, Roosevelt built his reputation playing with his uncles and cousins in The Lee Boys, known for their spirited, soul-shaking live performances. Seated front and center, he leaves an indelible mark on listeners, flooring audiences with his lightning-fast slide work on the pedal steel. At festivals he is a favorite “Artist at Large” guest performer on the lap steel, bouncing from stage-to stage logging hair-raising performances with some of music’s most prestigious players. No matter the context, when Roosevelt takes the stage, the ear-to-ear grins can’t help but be contagious. 2011-2013 collaborations include the Allman Brothers, ALO, Anders Osborne, Bobby Lee Rodgers, Break Science, Col. Bruce Hampton, Dead Kenny G’s, Dumpstaphunk, Elvin Bishop, Funky Meters w/Bernie Worrell of Parliament Funkadelic, Galactic, George Porter Jr. & the Runnin’ Pardners, Gov’t Mule, Greensky Bluegrass, JJ Grey & Mofro, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, Leftover Salmon, Lettuce, Living Color, Los Lobos, Medeski Scofield Martin & Wood, Michael Franti & Spearhad, Moe., New Mastersounds, North Mississippi Allstars, Papadosio, Perpetual Groove, Railroad Earth, Shameka Copeland, Soulive, Tab Benoit, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Toubab Krewe, Victor Wooten, Warren Haynes Band, Wood Brothers, Yonder Mountain String Band and Zach Deputy.
