Sallie Ford & the Sound Outside, who’ve been building a word-of-mouth buzz since the release of their acclaimed Partisan Records debut, Dirty Radio, have announced new US tour dates as well as festival performances at Sasquatch, Nelsonville Music Fest and Black Swamp Arts Festival. Sallie, a belter in her own right, will team up with the “Queen of Rockabilly” herself,Wanda Jackson, for West Coast dates, followed by shows with Deer Tick and select Midwest dates(Scroll down for a complete tour schedule).
2011 was a big year for Sallie Ford and the band, with breakthrough performances at Bonnaroo, Newport Folk Fest, Trans Musicales in France and more. They’ve taken Europe, especially France, by storm, with features in French Rolling Stone, Cosmopolitan, Le Monde, L’Express and more. They made their late-night television debut on Late Night with David Letterman, premiered videos onRolling Stone online and IFC.com, and recorded several sessions for NPR.
Sallie Ford & the Sound Outside also landed on many 2011 year-end best lists, including USA Today Pop Candy’s “100 People of 2011” and Paste Magazine’s “20 Best New Bands of 2011.” Paste wrote: “Rather than simply imitating her diverse influences, Sallie Ford & The Sound Outside decided to take a little bit of Bessie Smith and mix it with a dash of Tom Waits. The result is a delicious goulash of rockabilly and blues with just enough punk attitude to separate Ford’s sound from all the other homage-rock bands out there.”
