The Waiting for Lightning to Strike Tour is a triple co-headline event of friends and musical kin, and marks the recent release of albums for all three: Sub Pop recording artist Daniel Martin Moore’s Dear Companion came out in January to glowing reviews, Haley Bonar self-released her album Golder in April, and Holcombe Waller’s Into the Dark Unknown is set for a national re-release on June 21.

The three artists will alternate as headliners on the tour and will be planning some special collaborations on and off stage, including an invite-only hotel “bed-in” set in New York City, a la Waller’s SXSW performance with Jenny O. Keep an eye on the special tour page (waitingforlightningtostrike.tumblr.com) for free downloads of covers and previously unrecorded material, tour blogs, daily updates, photos and more. More special content and giveaways will be taking place on each of the artists Facebook and Twitter pages, so stay tuned.

Daniel, Haley and Holcombe are musical kindred spirits- each embodying the pure honesty and the vast variety that can define folk music. They also come from a place of consummate mutual respect and admiration. The first time Haley heard Holcombe perform she was brought to tears. As she says “It is rare to see a male SING that tight and technical and still sound loose and lovely… I love that both Daniel and Holcombe perform and write from honest places, you can see that when they sing live – you either have it or you don’t – and they’ve got it.”

MORE INFO on the artists:

Holcombe Waller is a Portland via San Francisco singer, songwriter, composer and video artist who is prepping the re-release of his latest record, Into the Dark Unknownon June 21st via Napoleon Records. Released in limited quantities earlier this year, the album has been praised by the likes of NPR, Paste Magazine, and OUT as a beautiful piece of intimate chamber folk. The re-release follows Holcombe’s successful unconventional run at this year’s SXSW, which was praised by The New York Times and NPR as one of the festival’s best. A welcome respite from the intensity of SXSW, Holcombe played two stripped-down sets in his bedroom at the historic Driskill Hotel in Austin. Ben Sisario called the set, “the most unusual performance space at South by Southwest this year, and perhaps one of the most effective,” and Ann Powers chose the performance as one of her top three performances in Austin this year. http://holcombewaller.com

Haley Bonar is a 28-year old singer-songwriter who resides in Minneapolis, MN via Portland, Rapid City, Duluth and Manitoba, where she was born. After writing her first album while still in high school, she won over the ears of Low’s Alan Sparhawk who released her first full length record The Size of Planets and brought Haley out on her first cross country tour. The albums Lure the Fox (2006) and Big Star (2008) followed, along with 3 self-released EPs.  She’s performed with Andrew Bird, Mason Jennings, Amos Lee, and Gary Louris. Her newest effort, the self-produced Golder, was released with the help of a healthy Kickstarter campaign to fund the album’s release with fan donations.  “Golder, for me, is an evolution into something brighter, heavier, and stronger” – Haley. http://www.myspace.com/haleybonar

Daniel Martin Moore is a singer and songwriter from Cold Spring, Kentucky. On the strength of an unsolicited demo, he was signed to Sub Pop and released his debut Stray Age. Its follow up, Dear Companion, was written and performed by Ben Sollee and Daniel Martin Moore together, and produced by Jim James from My Morning Jacket. (Filter: “This is one painfully beautiful record”). Between the release of Stray Ageand now, Daniel’s been busy, touring with Ben and Jim (including a July ‘10 performance at the Newport Folk Festival), opening for Iron & Wine, The Swell Season and My Morning Jacket, and appearing on NPR’s World Café. http://www.danielmartinmoore.com/
