Shakey Graves has sold out his upcoming performance at Morrison, CO’s legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre three weeks in advance. The August 30th show is just one of over 60 dates on Shakey’s expansive international tour supporting the transformative new albumCan’t Wake Up, and will feature Jose Gonzalez & The Brite Lites and Twin Peaks as openers. With a third of the tour underway, Red Rocks follows sold out performances in San Diego, Santa Fe, Salt Lake City, Spokane, and Boise, among others. The international tour (known as The Tour Tour Tour Tour Tour Tour Tour Tour Tour) will then continue in the US, climaxing with a hometown performance at Austin City Limits before heading to Europe. Additional special guests include The Wild Reeds, Rayland Baxter, The Sheepdogs, Blitzen Trapper, and Petal.
Shakey Graves’ new album, Can’t Wake Up (Dualtone), has received praise for veering from the inevitable to the revelatory; its thirteen songs teeming with jarring musical and thematic collisions and thrillingly seamless intersections, gnarly psychological hornswoggles and ecstatic resolutions. Central to the prevailing sense of disorientation are the lead vocals, none of which is purely solo. Instead, each lead performance is shadowed by a queasy harmony or slightly out-of-sync unison part, giving the sense-especially on headphones-that these voices are emanating from inside the listener’s head.
