Davy Knowles new studio album Three Miles From Avalon enters the Billboard Blues chart at #5 this week.  He joins Joe Bonamassa, the Marcus King Band, David Bromberg and Melissa Etheridge in the top five, with esteemed players Eric Clapton, Bonnie Raitt, Tedeschi Trucks Band and Keb Mo’ rounding out the Top Ten.  On this success, Knowles shares, “I’m overwhelmed by the support for the new record, and so glad to see it being received so well.  A big heartfelt thank you, I’m tremendously grateful and excited!”  To stream the album, or view visual content, click here: http://davyknowles.com/epk.
American Blues Scene wrote, “Taking from the Arthurian legend, the album title has become Knowles’ personal metaphor for things just out of his grasp. After listening to it, it’s our conclusion that the world is within his grasp.”  In closing going on to offer, “In the long heritage of UK blues, Mayall, Clapton, Gallagher, Davies, Korner, et al. have left some big shoes to fill. Davy Knowles has now been trying them on for over 10 years, and with Three Miles From Avalon, he’s slipped into them most comfortably. This must have album will hold a special place in your collection. If you ever take it out of the player that is.” When presenting the album stream premiere, Premier Guitar Magazine stated, “The eight-song set summons the spirit of late-’60s, powerhouse British blues—the kind played by Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac and the legendary Irish firebrand Rory Gallagher—and explores the genre’s enduring themes, like blackmail, gambling, and regret.  Guitar beacon Joe Satriani called 2009 tour mate Knowles his ‘favorite modern bluesman.’ That’s not a light compliment, and Knowles hasn’t stopped building upon his chops.”  Blues Rock Review weighs in offering, “Chicago based Davy Knowles is at it again with a new album Three Miles From Avalon. Dripping with classic blues riffs and intricate guitar work this is exactly what we have come to expect from an artist who has not one, but two, top three billboard blues chart albums…My favorite track ‘Oxford MS’, a story song of violence and torment pushes this album from amazing, to astronomically amazing. Meanwhile, ‘Never Gonna Be The Same’ sounds like Knowles stretched the south side of Chicago all the way down to the bayou. It has a slick and humid sound that leaves you sweating for more…This album is a powerful and compact explosion of blues that brings together the classic sound of Chicago with southern and delta blues.”
