A band known for an enthralling and exuberant live show, one that has captivated both critics and fans and earned them a reputation as a must see live band, the Sam Roberts Band is thrilled to announce a North American headlining tour beginning May 16th in Washington, DC. The 4-week tour comes in support of the band’s new album Collider, out May 10th on Zoë/Rounder Records. As a treat for fans, the band is now streaming first single “The Last Crusade” which features Califone percussionist Ben Massarella and Antibalas woodwind wizard Stuart Bogie.
“The Last Crusade,” which begins as a simmering soul shuffle before gradually intensifying into a brass-blasted Afro-funk blowout, can be heard here (approved to embed): http://soundcloud.com/rounder-records/the-last-crusade/s-p04y5
Developed through years of non-stop touring and three critically acclaimed albums, Collider, with its impressive range and undeniable vigor, sees the Sam Roberts Band doing what all great bands do – furthering their artistic scope with each successive effort.
Along with NPR, USA Today, The New York Times, Associated Press, Daytrotter, Blender and more, Esquire Magazine hails Roberts as “the best live frontman in music” and will “make you evangelical about rock, because this is what it’s supposed to sound like.” The Wall Street Journal goes on to say, “Sam Roberts has an ear attuned to grand, melodic hooks and a sound like Tom Petty fronting The Strokes” while Relix Magazine adds the band “has found a way to blend addictive melodicism with a focus that gives nods to the best of Britpop, garage rock and more.”
