Rodrigo y Gabriela’s new record 9 Dead Alive is now streaming in its entirety via NPR’s First Listen. “In their newest album, 9 Dead Alive, Rodrigo y Gabriela return to their roots, reminding listeners why they fell in love with the Mexican duo in the first place. The album finds them at the peak of their musical flexibility,” said NPR. “This new album is extremely stripped down and minimalistic, a treat both for those who’ve been following the duo since the beginning, and also for those who recently discovered them: letting listeners eavesdrop on a private conversation spoken between two friends, in the universal language of the guitar.” Last week, NPR also premiered the band’s intimately powerful video for “The Russian Messenger.”
More tour dates have been announced in support of 9 Dead Alive. The first leg of touring begins in Portland, ME, on April 25 and ends May 11 in Seattle, WA. The second leg begins July 27 at the XPoNential Music Festival in Camden, NJ, and ends August 17 at Red Rocks in Morrison, CO. The complete list of confirmed dates is below. This will be Rod and Gab’s first tour as a duo since summer 2011.
9 Dead Alive (ATO) will be released on April 29, and it is the band’s first record of new material in five years. It was recorded and produced by Rod and Gab at their studio in Ixtapa, Mexico. The album is now available for pre-order at iTunes. “The Soundmaker” will download immediately upon pre-ordering.
