Riding on the heels of tremendous success in their native South Africa, KONGOS announce their 2013 fall tour dates, which include a performance at RIOT FEST in Denver (9/22) alongside such legendary artists as The Replacements, Iggy Pop and the Stooges, Public Enemy and many others, as well as shows in their hometown Phoenix (10/12), and Los Angeles (10/4). To coincide with the upcoming run, KONGOS will release a ‘Special Edition’ of their latest album ‘Lunatic’ and their first single in U.S., the Burundi drum influenced ‘I’m Only Joking.’ For a full itinerary, please see dates listed below.
KONGOS is truly a band of brothers (Johnny, Jesse, Dylan and Danny Kongos), sons of singer-songwriter John Kongos, best known for his two international hits ‘He’s Gonna Step On You Again’ and ‘Tokoloshe Man’. They grew up in London and South Africa and are now based in Phoenix, Arizona.
‘I’m Only Joking’ was #1 on the biggest Rock Chart in South Africa and became the most requested song for 11 weeks in a row. Following up with 6 more hit singles, including various #1’s and Top 10’s, ‘Lunatic’ became the #1 rock album on iTunes in SA with 4 singles in the Top 10 (incl. #1, 2 & 3). The ‘Special Edition’ of the album will include acoustic/re-imagined versions of 3 of the songs.
After a successful European tour with AWOLNATION and Dispatch earlier this year, KONGOS played multiple festivals and sold out headlining performances throughout the U.S. The band will continue on with a fall tour of North America beginning at the Tulsa Roots Fest in Tulsa, OK. Tickets can be purchased at http://www.kongos.com/shows. Full tour itinerary to follow:
