Acclaimed singer-songwriter Parker Millsap has announced his eagerly awaited new album, Wilderness Within You, available on CD, LP, and digital download via Okrahoma Records/Thirty Tigers on Friday, May 12. Pre-orders are available now. Millsap’s sixth studio album, Wilderness Within You is heralded by today’s premiere of two standout tracks, “Running On Time,” a calming meditation on the rhythms of life, and “What You’ve Shown Me,” both available now at all DSPs and streaming services.

“It’s hard to say what any song is ‘about’” says Millsap, “but ‘Running On Time’ is as close as I’ve yet come to writing a song about EVERYTHING. The daily rising and falling of the sun. The monthly cycles of the moon. The shifting of the seasons. The expansion and contraction of the universe. I tried to fit as much of it in there as I could, and also express my gratitude for being able to witness and comprehend some of these processes. It’s a reminder that there is wonder to experience.”

“‘What You’ve Shown Me’ is a love letter,” continues Millsap. “It is addressed to everyone in my life. It is addressed to the Spirit of the Earth Itself. It’s addressed to you, for being and sharing in this wild ride with me, whether we know each other or not (we do).”

The official music video for “Running On Time” was directed by Austin Leih and premieres today as well and is streaming now on Millsap’s YouTube page.

“The voyage through the macro and micro that Parker so effortlessly creates in the song lent itself well to a visual medium,” says director Austin Leigh. “My intention was to create a collage where an invisible connective tissue may begin to thread these images together. My hope is that this invisible thread is unique to each viewer- providing a distinctive reflection on the things that connect us all.”

The follow-up to 2021’s Be Here Instead, Wilderness Within You sees Parker Millsap exploring the intertwined relationship between humanity and nature. Produced by new collaborator Ryan McFadden (Tony Joe White, Torres), songs like “So Far Apart” find the Nashville, TN-based artist at his most experimental – playing with field recordings, tape loop-driven soundscapes, and musical genre – while tracks such as “Wilderness Within You (Feat. Gillian Welch)” lean into his own signature classic folk songwriting. Taken in its entirety, the album is a natural step in Parker’s evolution which interweaves threads of his musical past and influences to gorgeous effect.

Millsap – who recently wrapped a series of dates supporting Patty Griffin – will celebrate Wilderness Within You with a wide-ranging live schedule, including shows at Los Angeles, CA’s The Troubadour, Nashville, TN’s Basement East, Tulsa, OK’s Cain’s Ballroom, and more.
