2023 officially marks ten years since the very first WinterWonderGrass took place, and it has been seven years since the event expanded to California’s North Lake Tahoe region. What started in a parking lot as a single-day event in the mountain community of Edwards, CO has since grown into the beloved, mainstay three-day music and beer festival with two iconic locations.
According to founder Scotty Stoughton, “2013 was a hope, a dream, and some luck.” He reflects, “the people came and came in droves to the first WinterWonderGrass. A bluegrass-focused, acoustic-driven music festival in the middle of the winter in Colorado may not make much sense to many folks. Still, it was just the medicine the Mountain Community craved, and they loved it.” To Stoughton, it is the elements of winter that make WinterWonderGrass so special. In fact, “I quickly realized that the challenge of weather became an ally. Those willing to endure the elements for their medicine, to prepare for Mother Nature’s contribution, genuinely are the heartiest souls. The energy they bring, the commitment to the mountain culture, the kids, the grandparents, all for one and one for all. There is really nothing quite like it.”
While WWG welcomes back many of the artists who have graced its stages in years past, newcomers Marcus King, the Main Squeeze and Mapache will make their WWG debut during the 2023 California stop. Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country, Neal Francis, Trey Wellington Band and The Lone Bellow are also new to the WWG family this year, and are scheduled for performances at both the Colorado and California festival dates.
In addition to the 2023 newcomers, this year’s WinterWonderGrass California welcomes performances from Molly Tuttle & Golden Highway, The Brothers Comatose, Della Mae, Lindsay Lou, Kyle Tuttle, Cris Jacobs Band, Dead Winter Carpenters, AJ Lee & Blue Summit, Big Richard, Pixie & The Partygrass Boys, Sicard Hollow, Pickin’ On The Dead, The Sweet Lillies, Dusty Green Bones Band, Tahoe All-Stars and RiverWonderGrass Alumni.
A free show, featuring The Sweet Lillies and Alud Dublilner, will kick off the weekend’s festivities on Thursday, March 30th in the Village at the base of Palisades Tahoe. The iconic Tram to Table Dinner* follows with two intimate sets of music featuring Lindsay Lou and Kyle Tuttle, plus passed appetizers, a one-hour complimentary craft beverage tasting, and local cuisine. Tickets to the Thursday night Tram to Table Dinner are on sale now and available here.
The California edition of WinterWonderGrass is known to sell out in advance so interested attendees are urged to grab their tickets soon. Snag your tickets here before prices increase on January 24, 2023.
