Eclectic Los Angeles band Dustbowl Revival has returned with a brand-new track, “Lying To Myself.” A haunting, interwoven vocal refrain runs throughout the dark love song that reflects on the denial and complications one faces when they cannot accept that a relationship is over. The track will appear on Dustbowl Revival’s forthcoming digital EP, Set Me Free (out on October 28th via AntiFragile Music).

A fan favorite live duet, a fully realized studio recording of “Lying To Myself” had never come to fruition. That is until a demo was unearthed by producer Ted Hutt (Old Crow Medicine Show, The Devil Makes Three, Dropkick Murphys), who encouraged the members of Dustbowl Revival to revisit the song. Then everything lined up. The group expanded on the original arrangement with new ideas inspired by such artists as Milky Chance and Chris Isaak’s “Wicked Game.” They altered the instrumentation and blended new singer Lashon Halley’s stirring vocals with bandleader Z. Lupetin to create a fresh, rejuvenated version of a song they had never completed, until now. Listen to “Lying To Myself” HERE.

In January 2020, Dustbowl Revival released their acclaimed genre-bending album Is It You, Is It Me. Billboard said the album was, “…like nothing Dustbowl Revival has ever created… certainly the biggest sonic work of the Venice, Calif.-based troupe’s career,” while Glide Magazine said, “Close your eyes – if one were to imagine the kind of music played in heaven, this may well be it.” The group had embarked on their extensive tour in support of the release when everything came to an abrupt halt due to the pandemic, leaving so much in limbo.

With the addition of Halley to core bandmembers Lupetin (vocals/guitar) and Josh Heffernan (drums/percussion), the Dustbowl Revival of 2022 is revitalized and making music with a renewed outlook and purpose. Along with the help of Ulf Bjorlin (trombone), Stephen Musselman (guitar/pedal steel), Yosmel Montejo (bass) and Leider Chapotin (trumpet), “Lying To Myself” is only the (new) beginning.
