Amy Alvey and Mark Kilianski have toured on foot—gig to gig with backpacks and instrument cases—for weeks at a time; called Asheville, Boston, California, and New Jersey home; and lived in various moving vehicles on the road for the past seven years under different names and incarnations. But their upcoming run of shows is a very special one; their first big, uninterrupted tour under the name Golden Shoals supporting their debut, self-titled album. Upon its release, Folk Radio said Golden Shoals is “consistently musically infectious and emotionally weightier than it seems at first hearing” and No Depression called it “an album of this summer, and every summer after.”
Like their album, Golden Shoals’ live show ebbs and flows from the joyful, higher energy numbers all the way to more emotional and understated tunes. Initially brought together by a mutual love of American folk music, their sound has expanded to include country, Americana, Indie and Experimental influences, allowing them to move more freely beyond genre boundaries with their songwriting while still emanating a deep understanding of Old-Time and Bluegrass music. Ever inspired by the enduring spirit of traditional Appalachian mountain music, their songwriting comes across as simple, honest, and fresh to the ears.
