GRAMMY-winning banjoist Béla Fleck, Mountain Song Productions, and Brevard Music Center have once again teamed up to present Blue Ridge Banjo Camp, taking place August 17-21, 2022 at the acclaimed music and arts institution. Applications are now open for intermediate to advanced players, with students being notified of acceptance in mid-April.
With a curriculum spanning multiple styles of three-finger banjo playing including Scruggs style, melodic, and single string, Blue Ridge Banjo Camp will welcome students of all backgrounds and experience levels to a multi-day retreat of instruction, networking, and creative collaboration. Nestled at the forefront of the idyllic Pisgah National Forest, Brevard Music Center has been a stronghold for musical showmanship since its inception in 1936. Its rich legacy in the region and picturesque location will set an inspiring stage for students to engage more deeply in their craft.
This year, expert instructors Tony Trischka, Kristin Scott Benson, Ryan Cavanaugh, and a few yet-to-be-announced special guests will join Fleck in covering a diverse range of disciplines. Following the completion of the workshop, students will enjoy the opportunity to showcase their newfound skills with a finale concert at the Whittington-Pfohl Auditorium located on the Brevard Music Center campus. This year will mark the camp’s return to in-person programming since the onset of the pandemic. Retreat curator Béla Fleck shares, “after an involuntary hiatus, we are thrilled to relaunch Blue Ridge Banjo Camp. It’s gonna be the banjo hang to end all banjo hangs, for the banjo nerd in you! Personally, I can’t wait!”
Béla Fleck Presents: Blue Ridge Banjo Camp, held in partnership with Mountain Song Productions and Brevard Music Center, aims to support a culture of lifelong banjo learning through intimate instruction by some of the craft’s most distinguished experts.
