Brittany Howard announced the addition of seven shows to her 2020 North American headline tour – including a June 9 performance at Celebrate Brooklyn! in New York and a KCRW concert with Thundercat and Georgia Ann Muldrow at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles (August 16). Tickets for the new dates will go on sale Friday, February 21, at 10 AM local time at www.brittanyhoward.com. She will kick off the run on March 17 at Luther Burbank Center for the Arts in Santa Rosa, CA. See below for itinerary.
Howard is touring in support of Jaime, her debut solo album, which found a place on numerous “Best Albums of 2019” lists, including The New York Times, NPR, Rolling Stone and Pitchfork. “Stay High,” the album’s first single, spent three weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Adult Alternative Songs chart. Views of the official video, which stars Terry Crews (“Everybody Hates Chris,” The Expendables films, Deadpool 2), have surpassed eight million.
The track “History Repeats” was nominated in two GRAMMY categories – Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song, bringing Howard’s total career nominations to 11. She won four GRAMMY Awards in her role as lead vocalist/guitarist for the chart-topping band Alabama Shakes.
Howard – who has performed everywhere from the Obama White House to the main stage at Lollapalooza, where she sang with Paul McCartney at his invitation – won acclaim for her 2019 tour. Magnet Magazine observed, “Howard turned a lifetime’s worth of anguish, ecstasy and doubt into catharsis, healing and beauty.” Minnesota’s Star-Tribune said, “She strutted, slid and shimmied her way across the stage channeling ’60s Motown and soul music, ’70s funk and R&B and a little ’80s pop and rock in her 75-minute set. And that was just the musical side of things. Lyrically, the songs from her new album, ‘Jaime,’ were stacked like a Southern food buffet.”
