Brooklyn-based Americana duo The Brother Brothers have released the third single from their forthcoming debut album, Some People I Know, out October 19 on Compass Records. Popmatters premiered “Red and Gold” today, saying “Gentle in pace and performance, the Mosses have ample space to glide through beautiful, harmonic melodies, as they do. All-in-all it does what they do best, presenting the musical power in weaving their stories and songs with subtlety. It captures their project’s specific type of energy—the type that doesn’t necessarily maintain the sort-of glam or acrobatics as many modern Americana acts claim, nor the type that needs to.”
Today’s release follows previous singles “Frankie” which Billboard praised for its “soulful folk” and “Mary Ann” of which Relix noted “natural harmonies and evocative lyricism that reflect a timeless sound and spirit.” The recent releases have been frequently featured in Spotify’s tastemaking playlists including Infinite Acoustic, Fresh Folk, New Music Friday and more. The Brother Brothers dazzled crowds at AmericanaFest and are on tour now supporting I’m With Her. They’ll celebrate record release on October 19 in New York City at Union Pool. Full list of dates is below.
The band say of today’s song, “The inspiration for this song comes from a head full of Townes Van Zandt combined with a quiet cabin on Lake Winnipesaukee. It’s as simple as that. It just kinda came right out.”
The title of their upcoming debut, Some People I Know, refers to the resonating personal nature of The Brother Brothers’ songs. David explains, “I think every song on the album is about a person or a character, and in a way, is a reflection of ourselves.” The duo masterfully captures familiarity in human experiences, their nomadic background making that no surprise. They’ve carried their sterling folk tradition across the U.S. and abroad, supporting notable acts including Big Thief, Shakey Graves, Lake Street Dive and more.
