The Marcus King Band has announced that they will support Tedeschi Trucks Band and The Drive-By Truckers on TTB’s “Wheels Of Soul” 2018 tour. Hailed by audiences and critics as “a champion of the summer concert season” (Cincinnati.com) and “a musically pure and soulful night of music” (Atlanta Journal Constitution), the annual summer tour is loved for its incredible musicianship, stage collaborations, and unpredictable set lists. Find a full list of tour dates below.
Trucks and Tedeschi are looking forward to the unique southern flavor that The Drive-By Truckers and The Marcus King Band will bring to this year’s tour. In King, Trucks is reminded of his early days as a talented guitar player plugging away on the road. “It’s been fun getting to know Marcus and watching him develop,” says Trucks. “He sat with us at the Beacon [Theatre, in NYC] and it will be great to have a chance to collaborate more on stage over the summer.” Trucks and King also collaborated on The Marcus King Band’s self-titled 2016 album release, for which Trucks performed on “Self-Hatred.”
King says, “Two years ago I saw Tedeschi Trucks Band, Doyle Bramhall II, and Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings in Charlotte, NC. I felt the electricity of the show through every part of me and I said, we need to be a part of this tour. It’s a blessing to be part of the energy this year!”
Pre-sale tickets for the “Wheels of Soul” tour are available now. Visit MarcusKingBand.com for further ticketing details.
Before hitting the road this summer with his own band, Marcus King will be lending his incendiary guitar skills to As The Crow Flies, a newly formed outfit fronted by Chris Robinson of The Black Crowes. With a desire to breathe new life into this storied repertoire, Robinson has gathered five musicians whose musical journeys intertwine with his own, including King, guitarist Audley Freed, keyboardist Adam MacDougall, bassist Andy Hess and drummer Tony Leone. The band will perform music from throughout Robinson’s history at a handful of select U.S. dates in Spring 2018, kicking off at the legendary Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY on April 17. Tickets go on-sale Friday, January 12 at 10am local time.
Recently, The Marcus King Band released the Due North EP via Fantasy Records. The digital-only EP consists of three songs the band recorded during their sessions at The Carriage House Studio in Stamford, Connecticut, for their sophomore album, The Marcus King Band, with producer Warren Haynes, and a fourth live recording: an epic 15-minute medley of the band’s “Sharry Barry,” “Sliced Milk” (Jeff Sipe cover), “25 Or 6 To 4” (Chicago cover), “I’ll Stay” (Funkadelic cover), and “Gloomy Sunday” (famously covered by Billie Holiday).
The Due North EP is now available for streaming and purchase via all major retailers.
In 2016, The Marcus King Band released their sophomore, self-titled album on Fantasy Records. Last year, the band made their network television debut on CBS This Morning Saturday where they performed “Rita Is Gone” and “Ain’t Nothin’ Wrong With That.” Marcus King also made the cover of Guitar Player Magazine in August of 2017 as one of “10 Young Players Spreading The Gospel of Kick-Ass Guitar.”
