Charlie Parr has released new song “Peaceful Valley,” from his highly anticipated new album Dog. He told Bluegrass Situation that the song “existed as an instrumental junk-rag for a long time before the story came up. It’s a fantasy about those days when I just want to go back into my little room, close the door, have some coffee, and lie around listening to records. I’d make a really good recluse, if I stayed home more.”
NPR premiered the track’s lively, animated video, directed by Jake Huffcutt, calling Parr’s album “a heartfelt wander-through-an-alley of an album” and noting, “The Duluth, Minn.-based songwriter strikes one self-inflicted wound after another, examining his own mental health and others through an expertly-picked resonator guitar and lyrics that puncture the soul.” Dog is out this Friday, September 8 on Red House Records, but you can stream the album in full now at Folk Alley.
Over the course of a prolific career spanning 13 full-length albums, the Duluth virtuoso has earned a passionate following for his strikingly candid songwriting and raw stage presence. Dog is his most personal record to date, digging deeply into personal experiences with depression and the existential questions that weight it.
Charlie Parr is on tour throughout 2017. Highlights include an upcoming stop at Americana Festival inNashville, a headline set at Mercury Lounge in New York City and two nights at the Cedar Cultural Center in his home city, Minneapolis. For full tour dates, see below.
