Details on the primary art installation on site have been announced today, titled “It Happened In Monterey…Music, Love and Flowers.” The exhibition designed by Abbott Miller and developed by Ileen Gallagher of ISG Productions will occupy a building on the site of the original fairgrounds, transforming into a colorful landscape that conjures the spirit of the 1967 festival. The exhibition includes rare documents, photographs and artifacts, and shows the development of the festival by Lou Adler and John Phillips and the making of D.A. Pennabaker’s documentary, excerpts of which will be shown in a “drop-in” theater environment. The final section of the exhibition looks at the aftermath of the festival, the careers of the musicians that performed there, and its impact on the music industry.
Additionally, Goldenvoice and Another Planet Entertainment will work together with the Monterey International Pop Foundation, which Lou Adler serves as Director, to give back and ensure this historic festival continues to inspire and empower music lovers in need.
