Twenty-five years ago, a group of college students first performed onstage at Tufts University. In 2017, Guster is celebrating this 25th anniversary with a series of signature events and concerts. Following sold-out shows at the Beacon Theatre in New York City and a four-night run at Boston’s Paradise Rock Club, the Guster 25 celebration moves to Portland, Maine in August, with a full weekend of activities, highlighted by an August 12 concert at Thompson’s Point. Guster On The Ocean kicks off on Friday, August 11th aboard a ferry that will cruise around Portland’s Casco Bay while Guster performs for 200 fans.
On Saturday, August 12th Guster will take to the stage at Thompson Point for a full show, supported by local Portland artists Ghost of Paul Revere and Spencer Albee. Following a tradition of sharing the stage with orchestras such as the Boston Pops Symphony Orchestra, the Colorado Symphony and most recently, the Dallas Symphony, the Maine Youth Rock Orchestra will join Guster for a portion of their set.
The weekend concludes on Sunday, August 13th with a kayaking trip from the Portland waterfront to a secluded location on the Casco Bay where Guster will perform an intimate acoustic set.
“I am excited for Guster fans to play in my backyard (well, maybe not literally) of Portland. We’ve put together a weekend of activities that showcases what makes Portland in its prime of summer so ridiculously awesome,” said Guster’s Adam Gardner. “Thompson’s Point is such a sweet location for a summertime show, right on the banks of the Fore River.”
Tickets for the harbor cruise and the kayaking trip are very limited and will be available by lottery exclusively to individuals who purchase tickets to the Thompson’s Point show by Friday June 30, 2017.
For fans wishing to travel from Boston to Portland for the show on Saturday night, the band has teamed up with AMTRAK to create the Guster Express, a private rail car filled with Guster Fans.
