12-time GRAMMY® Award-winner Jack White has received four leading nominations for the upcoming 59th Annual GRAMMY® Awards, bringing his total career nominations to 36. The GRAMMY® Awards will be held on Sunday, February 12 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and broadcast live on CBS from 8-11:30 pm (ET/PT).
White received nominations across the GRAMMY® spectrum, with “City Lights” – featured on JACK WHITE ACOUSTIC RECORDINGS: 1998-2016 (Third Man Records/Columbia) – nominated as “Best American Roots Song.” Written for The White Stripes’ “GET BEHIND ME SATAN,” the song was forgotten until White revisited the 2005 album for Third Man’s Record Store Day 2015 vinyl reissue. White finished the recording in 2016 for inclusion on JACK WHITE ACOUSTIC RECORDINGS: 1998-2016.
White also received nominations in the “Album of the Year” and “Best Urban Contemporary Album” categories for his production, writing, and featured role on Beyoncé’s LEMONADE (Parkwood Entertainment/Columbia), while the album’s “Don’t Hurt Yourself (Feat. Jack White)” also earned a “Best Rock Performance” nomination.
White’s myriad accomplishments and ongoing support for the art and craft of recorded music will also be honored at The Recording Academy® Producers & Engineers Wing® GRAMMY® Week celebration, set for Wednesday, February 8 at The Village Studios in West Los Angeles. Now in its 10th year, the annual event honors artistic contributions by the 5,500-plus members of the Producers & Engineers Wing, spanning producers, engineers, remixers, manufacturers, technologists, and other related music recording industry professionals. White joins a truly impressive list of past P&E honorees, including Chris Blackwell, T Bone Burnett, Tom Dowd, Ahmet & Nesuhi Ertegun, Jimmy Iovine, Quincy Jones, Arif Mardin, Nile Rodgers, Rick Rubin, Al Schmitt, Jerry Wexler, and Neil Young.
JACK WHITE ACOUSTIC RECORDINGS: 1998-2016 (Third Man Records/Columbia) collects 26 acoustic-based songs from throughout White’s wide-ranging musical career, spanning album tracks, B-sides, remixes, alternate versions, and previously unreleased material from The White Stripes, The Raconteurs, and White’s GRAMMY® Award-winning solo career. Released September 9th, the collection debuted at #1 on Billboard‘s “Vinyl Albums” chart – a position also achieved by 2012’s BLUNDERBUSS and 2014’s LAZARETTO. In addition, JACK WHITE ACOUSTIC RECORDINGS: 1998-2016 entered the overall SoundScan/Billboard 200 at #8 while also ranking at #5 on “Top Album Sales,” #3 on “Physical Album Sales and “Alternative Albums,” #2 on “Americana/Folk Albums,” #4 on “Top Rock Albums” and #10 on “Digital Albums.”
Today’s nominations continue Jack White’s long run of GRAMMY® wins and nominations, with 2012’s RIAA gold certified solo debut, “BLUNDERBUSS,” earning five nominations over two years, including “Album of the Year,” “Best Rock Album,” “Best Rock Song” (for “Freedom At 21”), “Best Rock Performance,” and “Best Music Video” (the latter two honoring the single, “I’m Shakin”). 2014’s “LAZARETTO” also proved popular with GRAMMY® voters, scoring a nomination as “Best Alternative Music Album,” while its title track received the 2015 GRAMMY® Award for “Best Rock Performance” as well an additional nod as “Best Rock Song.”
