Living Colour have released a video for their new single “Who Shot Ya?” via Rolling Stone. Watch it here. The song—a reinvention of The Notorious B.IG.’s classic track—was recorded and released to protest the ongoing wave of gun violence and racial profiling in the U.S. Over the course of the chilling 4-minute clip, statistics pertaining to gun-related tragedies flash across the screen, photos of people whose lives were ended through guns are shown and the names of gun death victims scroll, includingTamir Rice, Michael Brown, Jr., Kurt Cobain, Malcolm X, Dimebag Darrell, Martin Luther King, Marvin Gaye and Lee Harvey Oswald.
“Who Shot Ya?” and its subsequent series of remixes, including producer Andre Betts’ with guest verses by Chuck D., Black Thought, Pharoahe Monch, Prodigal Sunn and Kyle Mansa, are part of Living Colour’s Who Shot Ya? mixtape released this past Friday, September 9. Additionally, the collection includes the Living Colour original “Regrets” and a cover of Michael Jackson’s “This Place Hotel,” also known as “Heartbreak Hotel.”
Living Colour continue to tour prolifically around the world, including shows this summer with Jane’s Addiction and Dinosaur Jr. They will be among those performing at Freedom Sounds Festival onSeptember 24 celebrating the grand opening of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC). The band is currently putting the finishing touches on their first new full-length studio album in seven years, entitled Shade, which is planned for an early 2017 release.
