Gary Clark Jr. will premiere a new video for his track “When My Train Pulls In,” from his debut album Blak And Blu, on NOWNESS.COM beginning December 1st.
The video, a seven-minute long narrative that feels more like a short film, was directed by up-and-coming director Carmela Makela. The daughter of design studio founders Laurie Haycock Makela and the late graphic and multimedia designer Scott Makela, Carmela is known for her provocative work, having previously shot a steamy video for Atmosphere’s “Ain’t Nobody.”
For “When My Train Pulls In,” Makela assembled a talented team that includes established cinematographer Steve Annis, who has shot videos for UNKLE, Temper Trap, Calvin Harris, The XX, and Florence & The Machine, and rising actor Keith Stanfield, who appeared in the indie film Short Term 12 and stars in the upcoming civil rights film Selma, plus biopics about Miles Davis and N.W.A. On set, Carmela created a unique, family work ethic, bringing her vision to a high level of craft and emotional power.
