Karl Denson has announced that he will join The Rolling Stones on saxophone for nine shows in Australia and New Zealand on their 14 On Fire tour. The shows start at the end of the month in Adelaide and run into late November. The acclaimed reedman, songwriter and bandleader is best known for fronting the prolific touring juggernaut, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, who regularly perform over 150 shows a year. Their most recent album, New Ammo, was released in February 2014. DownBeat Magazine called it “music for both the party and for fans of instrumental prowess.” In addition, Denson is one of the founding members of seminal boogaloo revivalists, The Greyboy Allstars. He first came to national attention as a member of Lenny Kravitz‘s Let Love Rule-era band.
“It’s the opportunity of a lifetime, the chance to see the world through a giant pair of lips,” says Denson about his upcoming shows with The Rolling Stones. “It’s going to be amazing to get even closer to this music that I have listened to all my life.”
Denson has had to postpone his upcoming tour dates with The Tiny Universe in order to tour with The Rolling Stones. An announcement is forthcoming as to when those shows will be rescheduled.
