The Shakori Hills Community Arts Center will be holding its 5th Annual NC Stars in the Round event on August 23rd.
The evening’s highlight will be a singer-songwriter circle featuring some great local musicians and songwriters and hosted by the fabulous Jim Lauderdale. Each songwriter will share his or her unique musical talents one song at a time, then pass the mic to the next. The stars include: Laurelyn Dossett, John Howie, Jr., Dan Smith,Nikki Talley, & Shannon Whitworth.
Opening the show will be r&b / blues showman Ironing Board Sam. Sam has charmed audiences all over the Triangle with his soulful and engaging performances, he was a songwriter in the circle last year, and Shakori Hills could not resist having him back to begin the evening.
The show will close out with a set from Jim Lauderdale performing his own brand of country Americana. Jim is a master of songwriting and his music recalls bygone days of country music while keeping things fresh and funky. His work with Nashville’s Music City Roots and the Chris Austin songwriting contest at Merlefest make him the perfect fit to finish out a night of great songsmithing.
All profits from the event will go toward the Shakori Hills Community Arts Center where the Shakori Hills GrassRoots Festival and many other events are held. Funds will help with infrastructure and planning to carry out the organization’s mission of being a center for arts education and community-building for Chatham County & beyond.
Dinner will be available from the Shakori Hills Pizza Shack, beer from Carolina Brewery, and the Lil’ Coffee Barn will be open with ice cream, coffee from Larry’s Beans, and snacks from Pittsboro’s Phoenix Bakery. This is a family-friendly event and all are welcome to camp overnight on Saturday.
