New West Records is excited to announce that Texas-bred, Nashville-based songsmith Robert Ellis has been nominated for three Americana Music Awards – Artist of the Year, Album of the Year for The Lights From The Chemical Plant and Song of the Year for its evocative single “Only Lies.”
Ellis is the kind of songwriter who only comes along once in a great while. With his first two albums, a promise was made. With The Lights From The Chemical Plant, produced by Jacquire King (Tom Waits, Kings of Leon, Norah Jones), that promise was delivered and fully realized. The music, like the artist, refuses to accept the confines of a box, and burns white-hot from the inside out. But what seems even more striking about this record, this musician, even at a first glance, is that feeling of unyielding authenticity. With every remarkable cut, with every twist and turn, Ellis’s life and his experience, shine through.
The album has been receiving raves from the media. “This isn’t easy listening; it’s essential listening,’ exclaimed Esquire, while The New York Times called it a “gut punch of a third album.” NPRenthused, “It’s always thrilling to see a promising young artist take a leap and land brilliantly. With his second release, this Nashville-based Texan goes from Americana upstart to major sonic storyteller. It sounds like country, but this collection of vignettes about love, pain and self-deception will resonate with anyone who’s run toward a dream, or crawled away from one.” The Lights From The Chemical Plant has also received praise from Rolling Stone, USA Today, Associated Press, Village Voice,FILTER Magazine, Paste, American Songwriter as well as many others.
