Bonnaroo confirmed that as an addition to the Funkiest Dancer prize package, Elton John, who is headlining the festival this June, has agreed to meet the Funkiest Dancer champion backstage. The two will clearly bond over playing the main stage and other superstar topics. The winner of Bonnaroo’s Funkiest Dancer will be determined by popular vote. Voting closes May 15.
Fans can visit funkiestdancer.com to see the top contestants and vote for their favorites.
In addition to meeting Elton John, the Funkiest Dancer will perform on the main stage at Bonnaroo. The performance will be webcast to the world via Xbox and bonnaroo.com. The winner will also receive roundtrip travel, accommodations, VIP tickets, a Bonnaroo merch shopping spree and the Funkiest Dancer Dance Belt of Golden Glory, a 24k gold plated belt that weighs between 7 and 8 lbs.
Bonnaroo set out on a mission to find and crown the homegrown, funkiest dancer that ever was. The competition is the first in Bonnaroo’s history, a way to engage and celebrate the community, and ultimately treat one lucky person to the weekend of a lifetime.
The competition launched the same day as the 2014 lineup announcement, and features music from a select group of 2014 artists, including Chromeo, Die Antwoord and Cut Copy, dubbing their songs “Official Funky Tracks.”
The open submission period of the contest did not disappoint, from “this had to be a dare” type videos, to the unique and inspiring. The submissions are available for viewing and sharing at funkiestdancer.com.
Bonnaroo is taking place June 12 -15 in Manchester , TN. The festival webcast will be presented via Xbox One and Xbox 360. A more traditional online stream of the festival will be available at bonnaroo.com.
