There will be new 311 on 3/11, as multi-platinum rock band 311 has announced a March 11th release date for their highly anticipated new album. The disc will arrive via 311 Records and be marketed and distributed through INgrooves/INresidence, making it 311’s first truly independent release since the band’s early days as an unsigned band living in Omaha, Nebraska.
As Billboard pointed out in a story that ran today, “indie status may be a relatively unfamiliar concept for the reggae-tinged rock act after years of being signed to a major label, but frontman Nick Hexum says it’s one of the best moves 311 could have possibly made.” (http://www.billboard.com/articles/news/5839799/311-confirms-march-release-for-new-album-exclusive)
“It’s exciting to be an independent artist in 2014,” says Hexum. “We’ve always had a very direct relationship with our fans and it’s closer than ever. It’s empowering and inspiring to forge our own path. It comes with more responsibility but also a greater sense of creativity and accomplishment. It’s also great to be working with a company like INgrooves, who are at the forefront of independent music distribution. We’re excited for the future.”
311 recorded the new album with longtime collaborator/producer Scott Ralston, best known for his work on some of the band’s most popular releases, including 1993’s gold-selling Music, 1995’s triple-platinum selling 311, 1997’s platinum-selling Transistor and 1999’s gold-selling Soundsystem. The new album is being mixed by Ralston and 311 drummer Chad Sexton.
The new album is the follow-up to 2011’s Universal Pulse, which entered Billboard’s Top 200 Albums Chart at No. 7, making it the band’s 8th straight top 10 debut.
The quintet (Sexton, Hexum, bassist P-Nut, guitarist Tim Mahoney and vocalist SA Martinez) will celebrate the album’s release—and their 24th year together as a band—with their bi-annual “311 Day.” The 2014 concert, which takes place on March 11th at the New Orleans Arena, will be a coming home of sorts, as the first “311 Day” was held in New Orleans back in 2000 (the last two events took place in Vegas). Tickets have already been sold to fans from 49 U.S. States and 15 countries who will travel to New Orleans for the special event. Ticket information is available at http://www.311.com/311Day2014.
“We can’t wait to bring 311 Day back home to New Orleans where it all began,” says Hexum. “Our fans from all over the world will be there. There’s just a real sense of unity and community when our fans gather in NOLA – and always amazing energy at the show.”
Over the course of their amazing career, the now-Southern California-based 311 has sold close to 9 million albums in the U.S. alone. They’ve had 9 top 10 radio hits, including three No. 1’s. Their list of hits includes “Down,” “All Mixed Up,” “Amber,” “Love Song,” “Come Original,” “Beautiful Disaster,” “Don’t Tread On Me,” “Hey You” and “Sunset In July.” For 11 consecutive years, the band has headlined amphitheaters across the U.S. with their summer “Unity Tour.” They also host an annual Caribbean Cruise – a four-night trip from Miami to a private island in the Bahamas attended by thousands of fans from around the world.
