On the eve of the 2013 Warren Haynes Christmas Jam, a handful of world-class funk, jazz and rock musicians will converge on Patton Avenue, in the heart of downtown Asheville, Thursday, Dec. 12, hosting an all-star “get down” at the Asheville Music Hall.
The incredible lineup begins with pedal steel master Roosevelt Collier of the Lee Boys, who will also be an honored special guest with the Aquarium Rescue Unit and other Christmas Jam performers throughout the weekend. Collier’s slide-driven sacred steel joins the quick-witted guitar licks of Eddie Roberts, British jazz-funk frontman of the New Mastersounds. Tea Leaf Green bassist Reed Mathis (who recently performed on Late Night with Conan O’Brien with Nicki Bluhm) creates the evening’s deep-seeded low end, along with funk drummer John Staten of the Pimps of Joytime rounding out the infectious rhythm section. Over the top comes the feminine finesse of the Trey Anastasio Band horns — trombonist Natalie Cressman and trumpeter Jennifer Hartswick, whose gospel-like vocals will reverberate through the walls of the Asheville Music Hall with resounding soul.
Together, these six music lovers and friends will share their passion for performing with each other, and help Asheville welcome yet another weekend of unmatched live music during this year’s Christmas Jam.
