Kings of Leon have released an evocative new video for their epic song “Beautiful War.” Directed by Casey McGrath (“Pyro,” “Back Down South”), the clip’s look and feel was inspired by the filmUrban Cowboy, and stars Garrett Hedlund (Friday Night Lights, Country Strong, Tron: Legacy). Seeking to capture the cinematic quality of the song, the video employs classic filmmaking styles reminiscent of western movies shot in the 70s. Hedlund plays a prisoner involved in a dangerous prison-yard rodeo. The video flashes back to the scene that put Hedlund’s character behind bars several years earlier. What starts as a fun evening out, ends up as a tragic night that leads to his undoing.
“Beautiful War” comes from Kings of Leon’s latest album, Mechanical Bull.
Kings of Leon are confirmed to perform on Saturday Night Live on December 14. John Goodman will be the host.
