Celebrated Celtic-punk rock septet Flogging Molly has announced dates to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of their annual Green 17 Tour. The 27-city tour will kick off in Atlanta on February 15, 2014 followed by stops in New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago and Las Vegas with extended dates to end in New Orleans on March 23.
The Green 17 tour began in 2004 in response to fan requests from across the nation for Flogging Molly to play in their town on St. Patrick’s Day. In order to meet the demand, the tour was born as a countdown to St. Patrick’s Day with a themed performance in each city leading up to the holiday. The band’s rollicking live performances drew mass and diverse audiences and continued annually as a celebration of spirit, culture, resilience, pride, camaraderie and music.
Dublin born front man Dave King moved to America in 1989, and performed around Los Angeles, taking up residency at the now famed Molly Malone’s. Eventually the band members all met at the pub, and Flogging Molly was born, borrowing their moniker from the bar. Flogging Molly has produced a boisterous and boldly dynamic discography of Celtic, folk, rock and punk music, with personal narratives that have connected with diverse audiences worldwide. The band’s most recent independent release, Speed Of Darkness, garnered their highest debut onBillboard (at No. 9) with rave responses from Associated Press, Wall Street Journal, Rolling Stone, Parade Magazine, Los Angeles Times, Billboard, New York Post, Alternative Press, USA Today and many more with their debut appearance on the acclaimed PBS program Austin City Limits and story segment on CBS Evening News. Parade Magazine called Speed Of Darkness, “…a foot stomping blast of Celtic punk rock and a battle cry for the working class.” Rolling Stonepraised the album as “…one of their best records yet.”
