Over the last 50 years Moog Music has created technology that has given artists the ability to create and express themselves in new and limitless ways. Moogfest honors this spirit of innovation, embodied ion their founder Bob Moog through a five-day festival that highlights the intersection of art, music, performance and technology.

As part of the festivities, Moogfest and The Media Arts Project (MAP) are issuing an invitation to artists, musicians, designers, architects, engineers, innovators, scientists, and students to submit proposals for juried selection to contribute to Moogfest 2014. Between 5 and 10 submissions will be selected to be installed within the festival boundaries.

Design teams are asked to propose a freestanding, rapidly deployable temporary pavilion, structure or installation that embodies the interdisciplinary philosophy and innovation that Moog exemplifies. Designs should enhance the experience of the user by engaging multimedia and multi-sensory experiences of sound, structure, materiality, light and form. The objective is for each entry to emphasize the intersection of art and technology.

Participation is open to any individual or team who will be 18 years of age by the time registration closes on December 29th, 2013. Submissions will be accepted in digital format only. More information on proposal requirements, format and parameters, as well as the official application forms can be found at www.moogfest.com/map.

A jury comprised of MAP board members, Ursula Gullow and Brandon Pass, and Moogfest will review each submission.  Criteria to be considered includes:

  • Feasibility and structural integrity for public use
  • Appropriateness to legacy and mission of Moog Music and The Media Arts Project
  • Innovation and interdisciplinary approach to making
  • Rapidly deployable (must be constructed in less than 24 hours)

If selected, participants will install their pieces as a part of Moogfest and will receive an award of $1000. Special consideration will be given to North Carolina residents.
