NPR has premiered the new video for Dr. John’s “Revolution” from the New Orleans legend’s universally-lauded collaboration with The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach, ‘Locked Down’ (Nonesuch). The highest-charting debut in Dr. John’s 50+ year career, ‘Locked Down’ has found similar success at radio, remaining in the top 10 of the CMJ Radio 200 chart since its April 3 release.
Directed by Reid Long, the video offers a behind-the-scenes look at Dr. John’s recent three weekend residency at BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music), where he performed with guests including Blind Boys of Alabama, Ivan Neville, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, and Irma Thomas. The residency also included a live performance of ‘Locked Down’ with Auerbach, to which The New York Times responded: “Physical and spiritual, earthly and supernatural, a memento mori and a promise of transcendence – all were aspects of Dr. John’s music for the night.”

‘Locked Down’ was called Dr. John’s “best album in four decades” by Rolling Stone and has earned raves everywhere from Pitchfork and People to NPR and LA Times. On the heels of a triumphant set and surprise guest appearance with Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band at New Orleans Jazz Fest, Dr. John (a.k.a. Mac Rebennack) will take songs from ‘Locked Down’ across the US and Europe, appearing with his band The Lower 911 featuring Jon Cleary as well as Iron & Wine, Gov’t Mule, and more.
