Storyteller-musician-activist-cyclist-Kentuckian Ben Sollee is heading into the studio this week to lay down tracks for his 3rd studio record release, Half-Made Man. The album will feature musicians Carl Broemel (My Morning Jacket), Jeremy Kittel (Turtle Island String Quartet) and Sollee’s right hand man, percussionist Jordon Ellis.

“In lieu of having a single producer-type character in the studio,” explains Sollee, “I’ve taken the approach that, if you have a few great musicians sitting in a room, and you give them room to play, amazing things will happen.” He continues, “In the past, I’ve performed, arranged, scored, conducted, chauffeured, catered, and done all the other things that needed to be done. This time, I’m here to make music with some great musical friends… that’s it.”

Half-Made Man is being recorded with engineer Kevin Rattermann (My Morning Jacket’s Circuital) in Louisville, KY at an old parishioner’s house. And thanks to a supportive fan-base, a PledgeMusic Campaign will fund the album’s promotional budget. In just 48 hours, fans helped Sollee reach his goal by scooping up preordered copies of Half-Made Man, handwritten lyrics, bicycle cymbals, and even a once-worn “Cosby” sweater. 10% of the campaign’s proceeds go to Oxfam America and items are still available.
