On December 20, Jai Johanny “Jaimoe” Johanson, founding member of the Allman Brothers Band, will release his first studio album with the superb septet Jaimoe’s Jasssz Band.
‘Renaissance Man’ is a phenomenal debut that highlights impeccable musicianship and proves that each member of Jaimoe’s Jasssz Band is a master of classic rhythm and blues, soulful rock and roll and jazz.
Jaimoe’s influence on the Allman Brothers Band can be heard throughout the ten tracks on ‘Renaissance Man.’ The album features a cover of the classic song “Melissa” as a bossa nova and the track “Dilemma” sounds like it came straight out of a 1969 Allman Brothers session. The music will also resonate with fans of Allen Toussaint and Bill Withers.
Elsewhere is a gorgeous cover of “Rainy Night In Georgia.” “He sings it better than Brook Benton,” Jaimoe riffed about singer Junior Mack who was inducted into the Blues Hall Of Fame earlier this year.
On January 27th Jaimoe’s Jasssz Band will appear at the Gramercy Theater for a special performance in New York City.
