Saxapahaw, NC – On Saturday, December 17th the Shakori Hills Community Arts Center will present the Shakori Hills Holiday Roadshow, a buy-the-land fundraiser hosted by The Haw River Ballroom. The bill includes Tractor Beam featuring Willie Watson of Old Crow Medicine Show, Justin Robinson & The Mary Annettes, Charly Lowry, and Mason’s Apron. The Shakori Hills crew is excited to bring friends, new and old, together to raise money to buy the land.

Tractor Beam is an acoustic trio made up of Willie Watson from Old Crow Medicine Show on guitar, Richie Stearns of The Horse Flies on banjo, and introducing Rosie Newton on fiddle. All three have roots in Ithaca, NY, which is where the GrassRoots festivals got their start.

Mason’s Apron is a similar mix of acoustic players who hail from the Triangle area of NC with their own style of Americana jam with rootsy tradition. The band includes Andrew Marlin from Mandolin Orange on mandolin, Miles Andrews from Big Fat Gap on bass, Jeff Stickley from Hammer No More the Fingers on guitar, and special guest on fiddle.

Justin Robinson & The Mary Annetes seem to have emerged from a late night dream of former Carolina Chocolate Drop Robinson. Made up of Robinson on auto harp and lead vocals; Kyra Moore on fiddle, bass, and vocals; Elizabteh Marshall on cello; Sally Mullikin on violin and vocals; and Josh Stohl on drums; the band holds true to acoustic music roots while conjuring sequined visions all their own.

Charly Lowry is the lead singer of the Robeson County band Dark Water Rising. She has graced the Shakori Hills stage a number of times, solo and with the band. Accompanying herself on guitar, Lowry shares her beautiful, powerful vocals and soulfully written lyrics with grateful audiences.

Doors are at 6:30, show at 7pm. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door, available online in the GrassRoots Store or by phone at 919-542-1746. A $45 ticket is also available which includes a $25 donation directly to the Shakori Hills Community Arts Center’s buy-the-land fund. All profits from this show will go toward the purchase of the land at Shakori Hills.

The Shakori Hills Community Arts Center in a non-profit organization. They have been on a mission for the last 2 years to raise the down payment to buy the land on which the Shakori Hills GrassRoots Festivals of Music & Dance are held. They also have a number of events on the land throughout the year, hosting a place for people to celebrate and create music, dance, community, and education year-round. Buying the land will help them to support their community endeavors and to enrich the property for years of events to come. The organization has raised just over $61,000 towards the $75,000 goal. They hope to have the down payment by early spring 2012, and this Holiday Roadshow should get them closer than ever.

Sponsors of the event: The Haw River Ballroom, Universal Printing, and Weaver Street Realty. Shakori Hills is also accepting canned and non-perishable food items for CORA (Chatham OutReach Alliance) Food Pantry.
