Australian singer-songwriter Lenka’s “Heart Skips a Beat” is the iTunes Music Video of the Week. Lensed by Sarah Chatfield (Lily Allen, Craig David), the video prompted MTV’s Buzzworthy blog to marvel: “we seriously cannot decide what’s more charming — the song or the video…[it] makes us want to have a 1960s dance party…” Fans can download the video for free this week at:
“This single from her upcoming album, Two, filled with hand claps and breezy grooves, just makes you feel good,” said the Los Angeles Times Magazine. “Expect to have it stuck in your head for a very long time!”
Two will be released by Epic Records on April 19th and fans can see Lenka perform “Heart Skips a Beat” the following night, Wednesday, April 20th, when she appears on “Jimmy Kimmel Live.” The track will go to Adult Top 40 radio shortly thereafter.
“Roll With The Punches,” another track from Two, will be used in the new NBC series “The Voice” while “Here To Stay” was heard in a recent episode of “Nikita” and “Everything At Once” was tapped by”Grey’s Anatomy” and by Disney for a DVD trailer promoting its upcoming blockbuster films.
Marie Claire put Two on its April “To-Do List,” praising the “lovelorn sophomore album” and the current issue of Blurt takes a look at a month in the life of Lenka. She has contributed the song “Everything’s Okay” to the soundtrack for the Showtime series “The Big C.” Proceeds from the collection, set for release on June 7th, will benefit Stand Up To Cancer (www.standup2cancer.org/).
Last year, Lenka played the inaugural Girls Who Rock event, a New York City concert that benefited She’s the First (http://shesthefirst.org), a not-for-profit that sponsors girls’ education in the developing world, and she contributed a design for the organization’s line of Flip cameras. Within two months, sales of the She’s the First line of Flip cameras enabled them to sponsor two girls in Tanzania. You can check out Lenka’s Flip camera design at:
Two is the follow-up to Lenka’s self-titled debut album, which entered Billboard’s Heatseekers chart at #3 in late 2008 and contained “The Show,” which became a No. 1 single at radio in three countries. It was widely licensed for television, including such shows as “Ugly Betty,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Parenthood,” “Easy A,” “90210” and “The Hills,” the film Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging, advertising campaigns for Old Navy, Coca-Cola, Apple and Nordstrom plus the trailers for Marley & Me and Confessions of a Shopaholic. Spin marveled at Lenka’s “cashmere soft voice” and VH1 named her a “You Oughta Know” artist. She toured extensively behind the album, hitting 21 countries in 10 months, and appearing on numerous televisions shows – including “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,””Late Night with Conan O’Brien.” “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson” and “Jimmy Kimmel Live.”
