From its raucous roots-rock origins, Wilco over the years has expanded its sound to encompass classic pop and genre-spanning experimentalism in the process becoming one of the most acclaimed rock and roll bands around. After seven studio albums, a Grammy, various collaborations and countless days on the road for almost two decades, Wilco tried something new and took a long vacation before releasing their 8th album The Whole Love in 2011 on their own label, dBpm Records. The new album is the latest step in the ongoing evolution of Wilco, which Tweedy founded in 1994 after the dissolution of his previous group, alt-country standard- bearers Uncle Tupelo. Called “America’s foremost rock impressionists” by Rolling Stone, we are excited to welcome Wilco to headline 2013′s Nelsonville Music Festival.

Some four decades since his remarkable debut, John Prine has stayed at the top of his game, both as a performer and songwriter. Recently honored at the Library of Congress by US Poet Laureate Ted Kooser, he’s been elevated from the annals of songwriters into the realm of bonafide American treasures. Long considered a “songwriter’s songwriter,” John Prine is a rare talent who writes the songs other songwriters would sell their souls for. “He’s so good, we’re gonna have to break his fingers,” Kris Kristofferson once said after being justifiably stunned by a Prine performance. Evidence of this is the long list of songwriters who have recorded gems from his extensive catalog, including Johnny Cash, Bonnie Raitt, the Everly Brothers, John Denver, Kris Kristofferson, Carly Simon, Ben Harper, Joan Baez, and many others. His most recent release is The Singing Mailman Delivers, a two-disc archival release featuring the earliest studio and live recordings from Prine dating back to 1970, one year before that prolific debut album.

Also announced so far for 2013: Asheville garage-punk band Reigning Sound, Cumberland’s Cotton Jones, Portland Oregon’s Wooden Indian Burial Ground, and Ohio acts Nick Tolford and Company, The D-Rays, and The County Pharaohs. Many more to be announced!

Described by Andrew Bird from stage in 2012 as being “a hell of a lot better than Coachella”, the Nelsonville Music Festival continues to be one of the best in the region and one of the most unique music festivals in the country.
